Foundation employees leave their marks in the community!
Each year in October, Foundation employees take part in Social Action Day. The activity has several objectives, including:
- Creating a sense of belonging toward the Foundation and its mission
- Developing team spirit within the organization by helping others
- Encouraging employees to get involved in their community
- Providing concrete assistance to an organization in need
An employee committee is entrusted with the planning of this event. Each year, several Foundation grantees are invited to submit volunteering projects.
2010: A highly productive edition!
In 2010, the employees chose to visit La Maison Marguerite, an organization supported by the Foundation since 1987.
Throughout the day, the participants undertook numerous projects:
- cooking comforting meals, transforming an office space into a library
- remodelling the communal room, putting together hygiene kits
- sorting clothes and accessories collected by employees for women passing through La Maison Marguerite
October 18, 2010 was an exceptional day for La Maison Marguerite! A dynamic group of J. Armand Bombardier Foundation employees, motivated by a social action project, listened to our needs. They had the marvellous idea of cooking a large number of meals that were then frozen and that will be served to clients during the cold months to come. They also transformed and decorated two rooms, offering a whole new environment to our clients. With the help of the Foundation’s employees, La Maison Marguerite is ready for Winter!

A Carboneutral Event!
The Foundation team deems it important to produce the smallest ecological footprint possible while leaving its mark in the various organizations it visits. A special attention is paid throughout all stages of Social Action Day. Local, fair trade and biological products are purchased, and carpooling was is the chosen mode of transportation to and from the organizations.
Furthermore, because the organisation of any event generates greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, the remaining emissions are offset by purchasing carbon credit. In 2009, the carbon credits were purchased through ClimatCare.
An ongoing tradition since 2007
2007

2008
The Foundation team gave a hand at the Centre d’arts Orford, helping prepare the site for winter.
The Foundation already supports the Centre d’arts Orford in its primary mission, making arts accessible to the widest audience. On October 16, in spite of rainy conditions, the Foundation employees volunteered their time and energy to make our site look good for winter. The results of this magnificently orchestrated work can be admired as soon as one sets foot at the Centre. However, what is even more remarkable is the enthusiasm with which the participants worked. Humour, a spirit of cooperation, and a desire to do things right were shared by all.

2009
The J. Armand Bombardier Foundation’s employees visited Share the Warmth and lived one typical day at the Centre by participating in the different programs offered by the Pointe-Saint-Charles organization.
The employees wanted to leave a trace at Share the Warmth. So in addition to participating in everyday activities, they set up to renovate two music rooms. They painted, decorated and furnished the two rooms in order to offer a special space the youth who frequents the Centre.
I do not have enough words to express our thanks to the organization committee and to the Foundation. Not only a lot of work was accomplished yesterday, but creativity, energy and team spirit were there for everyone to see. Thank you!
Fiona Crossling, Assistant Director
