J. Armand Bombardier Foundation Gift
Queen's University is very pleased to announce a generous gift from the J. Armand Bombardier Foundation in support of a new Humanitarian Engineering Fellowship. The $150,000 gift will establish a permanent endowment at the University and demonstrates the importance of broadening the traditional engineering education. Queen's is dedicated to giving its students a broad view of their place in the world and the J. Armand Bombardier Fellows will be particularly dedicated to examining the impact of technology and how it can best be used to improve the human condition.
Dr Kent Novakowski, Acting Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at Queen's University, sees a shift in the focus of students today: "Instant access to world news and recent celebrity initiatives have given young people a renewed passion for international issues. The J. Armand Bombardier Fellowship will give them an understanding of the challenges facing disadvantaged communities around the world."
Ms Lyne Lavoie, Executive Director of the J. Armand Bombardier Foundation, adds: "As well as being a gifted inventor, Joseph-Armand Bombardier was a great humanitarian who believed in the importance of helping his fellow citizens. Over 100 years after his birth, the J. Armand Bombardier Fellows will use their knowledge to improve living conditions throughout the world. We could not think of a better way to carry on Joseph-Armand Bombardier's mission".
